Community Involvement

Suttle-Straus strongly believes in giving back to the community in which we live and work. It is a part of our culture we have warmly embraced, and is seen through the number of the events we regularly participate in and donate to.

As a leader in print, we believe in taking a responsible, active role in maintaining sustainable initiatives. Suttle-Straus is proud to be Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The FSC® certification denotes chain-of-custody from well-managed forests through the printing and distribution process. The FSC® standard protects water quality, forest ecology and high conservation value forests while prohibiting hazardous pesticides and limiting clear-cuts.

We also offer a variety of paper options using recycled content as well. We recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, metals and wood. With over 700 recycling receptacles throughout our facility, including automated waste removal systems from seven production stations; we recycle approximately 1,000 short tons of paper annually.

Through continuous improvement initiatives including design specifications for efficient processes to reduce paper waste, we’ve reduced the amount of recycled paper we produce by approximately 30% since 2008.

Suttle-Straus meets all state air quality regulations by continually reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Our pressroom inks are low in VOC content and our aqueous coatings are VOC-free. Many of our inks are now soy-based and none contain heavy metals.

They do this by providing a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. When a child is ill, the love and support of family can be just as powerful as the strongest medicine.

Safe Harbor seeks to reduce the trauma to children who are victims of abuse or neglect or witnesses to crimes, by promoting the coordination of multi-disciplinary investigations, conducting forensic interviews in a child-friendly environment, and providing ongoing advocacy to affected children and families.
