SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

As a leader in print, we believe in taking a responsible, active role in maintaining sustainable initiatives. Suttle-Straus is proud to be Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The FSC® certification denotes chain-of-custody from well-managed forests through the printing and distribution process. The FSC® standard protects water quality, forest ecology and high conservation value forests while prohibiting hazardous pesticides and limiting clear-cuts.

We also offer a variety of paper options using recycled content as well. We recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, metals and wood. With over 700 recycling receptacles throughout our facility, including automated waste removal systems from seven production stations; we recycle approximately 1,000 short tons of paper annually.

Through continuous improvement initiatives including design specifications for efficient processes to reduce paper waste, we’ve reduced the amount of recycled paper we produce by approximately 30% since 2008.

Suttle-Straus meets all state air quality regulations by continually reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Our pressroom inks are low in VOC content and our aqueous coatings are VOC-free. Many of our inks are now soy-based and none contain heavy metals.
